Caring for caregivers. We help the people who help. National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) was implemented by COAST in the spring of 2002. The purpose of the program is to provide support services to family members caring for their disabled elderly in their home. NFCSP Information and Assistance: includes in-home assessment of both the caregiver and the elderly disabled individual. NFCSP Material Aid: supplies qualifying individuals with items such as adult briefs, dietary supplements and assistive devices. NFCSP Public Education: provides learning opportunities in a group setting for caregivers. NFCSP Support Group: involves starting, assisting and developing support groups for family caregivers. NFCSP In-Home Respite: provides professional care for the disabled individual for a minimum of four hours, allowing the caregiver the opportunity to rest, relax or take care of other business. In 2008 over 1200 units of In-Home Respite were provided. NFCSP Personal Care: offers professional in-home assistance with personal care activities such as bathing, dressing and meal preparation. NFCSP Sitter Service: provides in-home care of disabled elderly individuals for shorter periods of time than In-Home Respite. This service is available in one-hour increments and usually does not include personal care activities. |
